Workers’ Day: SMU VC urges staff to sustain commitment, unveils expansion plans
The Vice-Chancellor of Sam Maris University (SMU), Supare-Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Francis Gbore, has urged members of staff to sustain their dedication and strong work ethic in order to drive the institution’s continued growth and advancement.
In a statement issued on Friday to commemorate Workers’ Day, the Vice-Chancellor commended staff for their invaluable contributions to the university’s development, noting that their commitment, resilience, and professionalism have continued to distinguish the institution within the education sector.
“I commend all members of staff for their unwavering dedication and the passion they bring to their duties. Your efforts remain the backbone of our achievements as a university,” Gbore said.
He emphasised that the university’s vision of academic excellence and innovation can only be realised through sustained hard work and a shared sense of responsibility.
He urged staff not to relent, stressing that their continued commitment would position the institution for even greater accomplishments.
“Let us continue to work together with unity of purpose, integrity, and diligence as we strive to take this university to greater heights,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor also reaffirmed management’s commitment to staff welfare, highlighting ongoing efforts to provide an enabling environment that supports productivity and professional growth.
Meanwhile, Gbore disclosed plans by the institution to introduce certificate and diploma programmes in foreign languages, particularly French and German, as part of its strategic expansion drive.
He made this known during an interactive session with staff on Wednesday, where he outlined the university’s growth agenda and reiterated management’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline.
“As part of our strategic plan, the university will soon commence certificate and diploma programmes aimed at expanding opportunities for learning and development,” he said.
“While French has already been integrated into our undergraduate curriculum, we will shortly introduce short-term language programmes targeted at job seekers with a global labour market focus, working professionals, and individuals seeking to enhance their language proficiency.”
Gbore further stressed the institution’s commitment to maintaining high standards in service delivery.
“We will not tolerate indolence or indiscipline in any form, as we remain committed to upholding standards and continuously expanding the frontiers of knowledge,” he stated.
