Sam Maris University (SMU), Supare-Akoko, Ondo State, has been listed among the universities approved by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Nigeria.

The University was included in the official list published by the Council of Legal Education and signed by its Secretary and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho.

It should be recalled that the approval granted by the Council of Legal Education for Sam Maris University to admit students into the LL.B programme took effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.

The Council, in the publication, stated that only universities approved by the Council are authorised to admit students into the LL.B programme in Nigeria. It also warned that students admitted into Law programmes by universities without the Council’s approval would not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

The inclusion of Sam Maris University in the official list marks an important milestone in the development of the University’s Law programme and reflects its compliance with the regulatory requirements governing legal education in Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Sam Maris University, Prof. Francis Ayodeji Gbore, described the approval as a testament to the University’s commitment to due process and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Prof. Gbore said the development further demonstrated the University’s determination to provide quality legal education and maintain the standards set by relevant regulatory bodies.

He expressed appreciation to the Council of Legal Education and all stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the successful attainment of the approval, noting that the University remained committed to providing an enabling environment for the effective training of future legal professionals.
