Sam Maris University is the first private university in Akokoland, Ondo State. The University is a Centre of excellence dedicated to quality education, innovation, character formation, entrepreneurship and leadership development in a serene and conducive academic environment.

THE POSITIONS

  1. UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

1.1 UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

The University Librarian is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the Library Services of the University and for all other matters relating to the University Library.

The Person

The University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University. Candidates for the post must be visionary, possess personal integrity, demonstrate transparency in both private and public life, and have the proven ability to provide effective leadership and command the respect and loyalty of the staff of the University.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must:

  1. possess a Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related discipline from a recognised University. Possession of a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline shall be an added advantage;
  2. be registered with the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and be a member of the Nigerian Library Association (NLA);
  3. possess sound knowledge of modern library management, including computer applications for the administration of a contemporary university library, strategic planning, staff management, copyright and intellectual property, financial management and other relevant competencies;
  4. possess at least fifteen (15) years' cognate experience in university library services;
  5. possess substantial scholarly publications in reputable national and international journals.

In addition, candidates must not be below the rank of Deputy Librarian and must have served in that rank for at least three (3) years.

Duties

The duties of the University Librarian shall include:

(a) collecting, organising and preserving adequate and relevant library resources;

(b) ensuring the continuous professional development of library staff;

(c) administering the approved library budget and rendering appropriate returns on fund utilisation;

(d) ensuring compliance with the regulations of the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria;

(e) ensuring that the University Library is automated, digitalised, networked and integrated into national and international information networks;

(f) promoting inter-library cooperation and resource sharing;

(g) generating internally generated revenue for the Library in accordance with University policies;

(h) managing the human resources of the Library;

(i) preparing the Library's annual budget;

(j) procuring and organising teaching, learning and research resources in consultation with the Faculties, Departments and other academic units;

(k) procuring stationery and other materials required for library operations;

(l) providing bibliographic instruction and user education services;

(m) providing circulation and reprographic services;

(n) providing current awareness services through library bulletins, accession lists, displays and exhibitions;

(o) providing information and reference services;

(p) promoting outreach and community engagement services;

(q) ensuring users have effective access to library resources;

(r) ensuring prudent financial management of the Library;

(s) facilitating access to scholarly information in support of teaching, learning and research; and

(t) promoting staff research and scholarly publications.

Vision Statement

Candidates shall submit a Vision Statement entitled: "Sam Maris University Library as a 21st Century Academic Library: A Five-Year Strategic Vision"

The Vision Statement should highlight the candidate's proposals for the administration, development, automation, digital transformation, innovation and delivery of library services over the next five years.

1.2 LAW LIBRARIAN (SMU CONASS 03)

Candidates must possess:

  • a good degree in Law (LL.B. and B.L.);
  • a Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related discipline from a recognised University;
  • registration with the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and/or membership of the Nigerian Library Association;
  • possession of an LL.M. degree and experience in a Law Library shall be an added advantage.

2.2       QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates for the positions of Professor, Reader and Senior Lecturer shall possess the qualifications and experience prescribed for the respective positions as follows:

2.2.1    Professor

  • Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised University.
  • At least twenty-five (25) scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Minimum of one hundred (100) Google Scholar citations.
  • Minimum H-index of six (6).
  • At least two (2) publications indexed in Thomson Reuters journals.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years' teaching and research experience at the university level.
  • Demonstrated leadership within the University committee system.
  • Evidence of research leadership, including postgraduate supervision, mentorship, research grants and conference facilitation.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies.

2.2.2    Reader

  • Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline.
  • At least twenty (20) scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) Google Scholar citations.
  • Minimum H-index of three (3).
  • At least one (1) publication indexed in Thomson Reuters journals.
  • Substantial teaching and research experience at the university level.
  • Demonstrated leadership within the University committee system.
  • Evidence of research leadership.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies.

2.2.3    Senior Lecturer

  • Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Considerable teaching and research experience at the university level.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies.

2.2.4    Lecturer I

  • D. degree in the relevant field from a recognized University.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience in a recognized University or an Academic Institution of similar status.
  • Minimum of 4 scholarly publications in reputable journals.
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies.

3.0 NON-TEACHING STAFF POSITIONS

3.1 OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
(CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS AND PROTOCOL UNIT)

CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS AND DIGITAL MARKETING OFFICER II (SMU CONSAS 07)

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess:

  • A good First Degree in Mass Communication or a related discipline, not below Second Class Lower Division, from a recognised University.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in digital communication and information technology.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Considerable cognate experience in a reputable media organisation shall be an added advantage.

3.2 REGISTRY

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER II/I (SMU CONASS 07/08)

The Person

The Administrative Officer II shall be responsible for providing administrative support in the Registry and other academic and administrative units of the University. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute effectively to the implementation of the University's administrative policies and procedures and perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time. The Administrative Officer I shall perform similar duties at a higher level of responsibility.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess:

  • A good First Degree, not below Second Class Lower Division, from a recognised University.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, good interpersonal skills, sound knowledge of modern office administration, and proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
  • The ability to work effectively in a university environment and demonstrate computer literacy.
  • For the position of Administrative Officer I, at least three (3) years' cognate post-qualification experience in a recognised institution or organisation.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies shall be an added advantage. 

3.3 UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTRE

NURSING OFFICER (SMU CONHESS 07)

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess:

  • A good B.N.Sc. degree, not below Second Class Lower Division, from a recognised University.
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

OR

  • A Registered Nurse (RN) qualification recognised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Candidates with considerable cognate post-qualification experience may be considered for appointment at an appropriate grade.

3.4 PLANNING, WORKS AND SERVICES DEPARTMENT

MOTOR DRIVER I/DRIVER-MECHANIC I (SMU CONSAS 03)

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess either:

  • A Junior Secondary School Certificate with five (5) credit passes, including English Language, a valid Class 'E' Driver's Licence, and at least three (3) years' continuous driving experience;

OR

  • A Junior Secondary School Certificate with five (5) credit passes, including English Language, a valid Class 'E' Driver's Licence, and Government Trade Test Grade III.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

The appointment shall be subject to the University Statutes, Ordinances and the Regulations Governing the Conditions of Service of Employees as may be made or amended by the University Governing Council from time to time.

The salary, allowances and other conditions of service for the post of University Librarian shall be as obtainable for the office of University Librarian in Nigerian universities. The salary, allowances and other conditions of service for other academic and non-teaching positions shall be as obtainable for the respective positions in Nigerian universities, subject to the approval of the University Governing Council from time to time.

REFERENCES

Candidates for senior staff positions must nominate three (3) referees who shall forward confidential reports directly to the Registrar and Secretary to Council. The referees, who must be persons of proven integrity, should include the candidate's Head of Department/Unit.
