Stakeholders at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Ondo State, have commended the Management of Sam Maris University, Supare-Akoko, for the impressive performance, knowledge and professional conduct of its students undergoing clinical training at the facility.

The commendation came barely two weeks into the students’ clinical posting, with senior members of staff expressing satisfaction with their level of preparedness, confidence and performance during interactions and practical sessions.

The students, drawn from the Faculty of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, were said to have distinguished themselves through their knowledge, confidence and professional disposition.

In separate messages to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Francis Gbore, some stakeholders urged the institution to sustain its commitment to academic excellence and quality professional training.

One of the senior staff members wrote: “I want to share the good news of the commendation your students are receiving from different sections of the facility where I have been. Their performance has been impressive, and I encourage you to continue putting in more effort.”

Another staff member expressed particular surprise at the students’ level of knowledge, saying: “I was surprised that some 500-level students from other institutions could not answer questions that your 200-level students were able to answer. This demonstrates the quality of their training and the solid academic foundation they have received. Please keep it up, sir.”

Responding to the commendations, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Gbore, expressed appreciation to the management and staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for recognising the efforts of the University and its students.

He assured the stakeholders that Sam Maris University would continue to uphold high academic and professional standards while providing students with the practical exposure required for successful professional practice.

Prof. Gbore said: “I am not surprised by the commendation our students are receiving because we have prioritised high standards in academics and professional training. We will continue to maintain this standard and ensure that our students receive quality training that prepares them adequately for professional practice.”

The Vice-Chancellor further appreciated the FMC, Owo, for providing a conducive environment for the students’ clinical experience, noting that meaningful clinical exposure is essential to complement classroom learning and develop competent, confident and ethically responsible healthcare professionals.
